Valencia shopping street amid Halloween safety concerns

Police detain Valencia teen over alleged Halloween looting plot

Police in Valencia have arrested a 17-year-old boy accused of using messaging apps and social media to encourage looting and unrest in the city on Halloween night, according to police sources.

The boy was detained on Wednesday and is due to appear before the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office on Thursday, 29 October. Investigators say he is suspected of creating groups on two instant messaging platforms to call for people to target shops on Saturday, 31 October.

Three alleged offences

Police sources say the teenager is being investigated for alleged conspiracy to commit public disorder offences, conspiracy to commit offences against property, and membership of a criminal group.

According to the reports, the calls to action were linked to the so-called “Blocus” movement and were spread through online messages. Police have not given details of any wider arrests at this stage.

The arrest comes days before Halloween, when authorities in Valencia are already expecting a busy weekend in the city centre.

Other Spanish media reported the same core facts, including the suspect’s age, the alleged use of messaging apps to organise the calls, and his planned appearance before the juvenile prosecutor.
