Residential block entrance in Alicante after a stabbing incident

Man, 47, seriously injured in Alicante stabbing

Police in Alicante are searching for several suspects after a 47-year-old man was seriously injured in a stabbing outside his home in the Juan XXIII Second Sector on Wednesday afternoon.

The attack took place in Pasaje Poeta Balart shortly before 2.30pm, according to emergency calls. The victim was taken by ambulance to Sant Joan Hospital, where he was due to undergo surgery, according to sources close to the case.

Investigators from the National Police’s violent crime unit have taken over the case and are trying to identify the person who carried out the attack, as well as others who were at the scene. The man told police he knew his aggressors, who were several people, and the assault appears to have happened from behind.

Inquiry focuses on possible dispute

Officers have not yet confirmed a motive, but they are examining whether the stabbing may have followed a disagreement between the victim and the suspects. Police sources said the people believed to be involved are neighbours from the area.

Uniformed National Police officers and Alicante Local Police responded to the scene, alongside an ambulance. Plainclothes officers from judicial police and scientific police units also attended to inspect the area and gather statements from possible witnesses.

The investigation is ongoing.
