A man has been ordered to pay €8,205 after assaulting two Guardia Civil officers who attended a domestic disturbance in Torrevieja, according to a court ruling.
The sentence, handed down by the criminal section of the Orihuela court sitting in Torrevieja, includes fines and civil compensation for the injuries suffered by both officers.
What the court found
According to the ruling, the incident happened shortly after 12.50am on 16 October 2025 at a home in the town, where the officers had gone after being called to a serious family dispute.
The court found that one officer was struck in the face and that the man resisted arrest during the intervention. The second officer was also injured in the struggle.
One of the officers suffered a sprain and swelling to his left ankle and needed 21 days to recover, while the other required treatment and a longer period of rehabilitation, with his recovery lasting 112 days.
Compensation and fines
The man must pay €1,600 to one officer and €6,605 to the other, bringing the total civil liability to €8,205, plus statutory interest.
He was also handed fines totalling €3,426, according to the reports published on Monday.
AUGC, the Guardia Civil association, said the case highlights the risks officers face when responding to domestic incidents and has called for tougher penalties for attacks on security forces.
It also renewed its demand for formal recognition of Guardia Civil duties as a high-risk profession.
