Fraudulent car buying scam involving a couple from Finland

Motor traders and private sellers are being warned about an alleged scam involving a couple from Finland posing as car buyers and using what appear to be legitimate documents and bank transfers.According to reports circulating among sellers, the couple approach individuals selling vehicles and present themselves as genuine buyers. They reportedly provide identification and paperwork that appear authentic and agree to purchase the car.The payment is then made via what looks like a bank transfer, with the funds appearing in the seller’s account. Believing the payment has been completed, the seller releases the vehicle. However, several days later — in some cases around three days after the transaction — the money is allegedly withdrawn or reversed from the receiving account, leaving the seller without both the vehicle and the payment.By the time the issue becomes clear, the car has already disappeared. The alleged scam highlights the importance of ensuring bank transfers are fully cleared and verified with your bank before handing over a vehicle or ownership documents.Anyone who believes they may have encountered suspicious buyers or fraudulent payment activity is advised to report the matter to local police.
