Stage 19 of La Vuelta a España 2026 rolls out on Friday, September 11 from Velez-Malaga to Peñas Blancas above Estepona. The police will close every stretch of road in a few minutes. before the caravan arrives Reopen the road as soon as all riders and staff vehicles have left. Expect a possible tailback around late lunchtime, as it is a first Friday in September. Don’t be surprised if you find that many colleges will close early in order to avoid problems during the school run.
Axarquia morning begins
The parking bans have already been implemented in Velez Malaga from Thursday 7am to Friday 5pm. This includes the bus station and surrounding areas such as Mercado Mayoristas (Market), Blas Infante (Blas Infante), Axarquia, and Carretera de Loja. If you leave your vehicle there, it will be towed. Neutralised usage begins at 11.50am. Official start is 12.06pm. After 8.3km, the N-340 will be used to reach Benajarafe. Entry cuts may begin up to 40 minutes before the official start time. Our Velez-Malaga visitors’ briefing contains more information on the starting zone.
Malaga in the late morning
From 11.30am, the limits are increased. Around 12.40pm, riders are expected on the Carretera de Almeria and will take about half an hour to get from east, centre, and west: Juan Sebastian Elcano and Pintor José Sorolla; Canovas del Castillo; Plaza Torrijos; Paseo del Parque; Alameda Principal; Avenida de Andalucia Blas Infante & the A-357 towards Cartama. There are a few exceptions: 15, 18, 22, 27, and 28. When possible, use the roundas.
The end of the climb on Westbound A-7
San Pedro Alcantara will see the race in the afternoon, between 3.30pm and 4.26pm. The A-7 traffic in Cadiz will be halted for approximately 30 minutes at km 1053. This is just before the Ronda exit. Queues start to build up at 2pm. San Pedro A-7 warning.
Estepona streets are due between 4.20pm and 4.28pm, then the MA-8301 climb to Peñas Blancas. The end times are between 5.14pm and 5.47pm. This mountain highway is shut for much longer than a city-centre hop. It sounds as if the sound was deliberate and done with excessive expertise. Hope they’ve taken into account all the potholes on the Costa del Sol.
Skip the race and go away early watch DGT plus local police feeds. Distances and maps can be found on the La Vuelta website, as well as DGT’s site. The A7 between San Pedro Alcantara to Estepona is likely to be the worst affected at around 4pm.
