Guardia Civil near courthouse after cannabis case remand

Four remanded in custody after cannabis ring bust

A judge in Granada has remanded four suspects in custody after a Guardia Civil operation that targeted a network accused of growing and sending cannabis to Slovenia.

The remand order adds a new judicial development to the case first reported by CNS earlier on Friday, when officers said 19 people had been detained in the inquiry. Read the earlier CNS report here.

According to the Guardia Civil, the arrests were made in the operation known as Graveyard 02, which it says focused on a group based around Granada that cultivated, bought, transported and shipped marijuana abroad. The force said the active phase of the inquiry took place on 23 and 24 October.

Officers carried out 12 searches in Granada city, Almuñécar and Peligros. Investigators said they found indoor cannabis grows in several properties, including rooms adapted for cultivation and one underground hiding place.

The Guardia Civil also said the searches uncovered cash, vehicles, documentation and weapons. Among the seized firearms was a pistol modified to fire automatically, which officers described as a war weapon because of the alteration.

The suspects were brought before the duty court in Granada, which ordered four of them into provisional prison while the wider case remains under investigation.

Operation still open

The force has not said that the inquiry is over, and possible international links remain under examination. No further details of the suspects have been released.
