Woman held after €29,000 safe theft from flatmate

Police in Algeciras have arrested a woman suspected of stealing a safe containing €29,000 from the home she shared with the victim, according to the National Police.

The force said officers recovered the full amount during the investigation, which was carried out by the second UDEV unit at Algeciras police station. The suspect was later handed over to a judge after police completed their enquiries.

Suspect knew about recent compensation payment

Investigators said the woman was aware that the victim had recently received a compensation payment. That detail, officers said, helped them focus the inquiry on someone from the victim’s immediate domestic circle.

Police said the safe belonged to the victim and was taken from the shared home in Algeciras, in the Cádiz area. The woman was arrested as the alleged author of the theft and the money was recovered intact.

The case is understood to have centred on a property offence inside a shared household rather than an external break-in. Police have not said publicly whether any other person was involved.

Once the investigation was complete, the detained woman was placed before the judicial authority, as is standard procedure in such cases.
