Stopped car beside a vacant plot on a quiet roadside

Driver held after running over officer’s foot during stop

A routine roadside check in the Orihuela area escalated into a chase and arrest after a driver allegedly ran over an officer’s foot and sped away.

According to the report, officers had signalled the vehicle to stop so they could check the driver’s documents. As the papers were being handed over, the driver suddenly accelerated, running over one officer’s foot before fleeing the scene.

The vehicle did not get far. The occupants later abandoned it on a vacant plot of land and tried to escape on foot, but officers pursued them and arrested one of the suspects.

No details were given about the condition of the officer, the identity of the suspect or the exact location of the stop. It was also not immediately clear how many people were in the vehicle when the check took place.

The incident was described as a routine traffic or roadside inspection that turned into a short pursuit. Police said the swift response of the officers brought the chase to an end and led to an arrest.

Further details were not available at the time of reporting.
