Guardia Civil officers beside a stopped car on a quiet street

Three held after gold chain snatch from elderly woman

Guardia Civil officers have arrested three young people after an elderly woman was robbed of a gold chain in Zujaira, in the Granada area, in a case that was quickly solved after the victim noted the getaway car’s registration number.

The force said the incident happened at about 10.15am on Wednesday, 28 October, when the woman was walking in the street and two women pulled the chain from around her neck in a sudden grab. She was not injured.

The pair then fled in a car driven by a man. The victim was able to write down the number plate, which she later gave to officers.

That information was passed to patrols on duty. Minutes later, a Guardia Civil unit from Atarfe spotted the car heading towards Granada and ordered it to stop using lights and sirens.

Inside the vehicle were a man and two women whose descriptions matched those given by the complainant. Investigators from the Guardia Civil’s Atarfe unit later confirmed their alleged involvement, according to the force.

The three, aged between 20 and 24, were arrested on suspicion of violent robbery.
