Aemet has activated a yellow weather alert across Alicante province for Tuesday, warning that a new DANA could bring locally heavy showers and thunderstorms, with the sharpest downpours expected in southern districts.
The state meteorological agency says rainfall could reach 30 litres per square metre in an hour in parts of the province. Along the northern coast, the alert will stay in place into Wednesday, with accumulations of up to 60mm in 12 hours.
Uneven rain across the province
The forecast points to a patchy episode rather than a uniform downpour, with the heaviest rain depending on where the storm cells form and move. That means one area could see intense showers while another nearby stays comparatively dry.
Alicante, Elche, Benidorm, Torrevieja, Dénia and Xàbia are among the municipalities mentioned in the warning map, alongside inland towns including Novelda, Aspe, Cocentaina and Muro de Alcoi.
According to the forecast, the unsettled weather will begin on Tuesday, 3 November, and may persist into part of Wednesday in the north of the province.
What forecasters are expecting
The Climatology Laboratory at the University of Alicante described the situation as a fairly typical rainfall pattern, although it warned that showers could be heavy in some places. Meteored meteorologist Samuel Biener also said accumulations could vary sharply over short distances, depending on the exact track of the storms.
That is likely to matter most for residents and visitors in coastal and inland areas where sudden bursts of rain can quickly affect roads, low-lying streets and drainage channels.
The current warning follows a spell of unstable weather across the wider Valencian Community, with meteorologists keeping a close watch on how the DANA develops over the next 24 hours.
