Two men were detained in Calasparra after Guardia Civil officers found 170 grams of a plant-based substance they suspect was cannabis in the car they were travelling in, along with a precision scale and other items linked to drug dealing.
The stop took place during a preventive public safety operation in the town’s industrial estate. Officers pulled over the car and, while identifying the driver and passenger, noticed a strong smell they associated with cannabis.
Search of the vehicle
According to the force, a search of the boot uncovered three glass jars and a metal container holding the substance, which is still awaiting analysis. Officers also seized a digital precision scale, a measuring cup, two containers of agricultural fertiliser, two bottles of agricultural soap and a knife.
Guardia Civil sources said the items found led investigators to suspect the vehicle may have been used as a mobile street-level drug-selling point. The two occupants were then arrested as suspected offenders against public health for drug trafficking.
Case under investigation
The detained men remain presumed innocent unless and until a court says otherwise. The substance has been seized and will now be analysed to confirm exactly what it contains.
The intervention formed part of routine security checks carried out by Guardia Civil in the Murcia region, which can lead to further searches or arrests when officers find evidence of drug possession or supply.
