A cause-finding investigation was launched to find out what caused the crash. It is the deadliest accident in Spain since the derailment near Santiago de Compostela, in July 2013.
Oscar Puente, Spain’s Transport Minister described the accident in a strange way. Initial reports claim that the derailed, less than four-year-old train underwent a complete service last week, and the track on which the accident took occurred was overhauled in the past year.
He said, “It seems strange, very bizarre, and very difficult to understand right now”.
