Police in Barcelona are investigating after a fight between several people ended with shots being fired in the city’s Zona Franca area on Sunday morning, with no one injured.
The incident happened at around 9am in the Jardins del Mediterrani, in the Marina de Port neighbourhood. According to police sources, several witnesses alerted officers after hearing what appeared to be multiple shots during the dispute.
When Mossos d’Esquadra patrols and public order units arrived, the person suspected of firing had already left the scene. Officers found several people still in the gardens and identified them because of their possible link to the incident.
Witnesses told police that one of those involved in the confrontation had fired a pistol. Some residents said they heard up to five shots. Police have not yet established whether the weapon was real or a blank-firing gun.
One man arrested after resisting officers
During the police response, one man allegedly resisted officers and tried to confront them. He was arrested on suspicion of attacking law enforcement and disobeying police orders.
The Mossos have opened an investigation to establish exactly what happened and to identify the person who fired the shots. No arrests have been made in relation to the alleged gunman so far.
The episode comes months after a fatal shooting in the same wider Zona Franca area, although police have not said whether the two cases are linked.
For now, officers are treating this as an active inquiry and have not released further details about the people involved.
