Police outside an apartment block in Barcelona’s Nou Barris

Man arrested in Madrid after Barcelona partner killing confession

Madrid Municipal Police have arrested a man who confessed to killing his partner in Barcelona’s Nou Barris district, according to the Mossos d’Esquadra.

The arrest came after the suspect handed himself in to local police in Madrid on Wednesday afternoon, shortly after officers in Barcelona had already been alerted to the death of the woman at a home in the city’s northern district.

According to the Mossos, officers from the force and Barcelona fire brigade were called to the address earlier that morning after receiving a report that a woman inside the property was unresponsive. Once inside, emergency services found her body.

The Catalan police force said the case has been taken over by its Criminal Investigation Division and remains under judicial secrecy, meaning few further details have been made public.

The High Court of Justice of Catalonia also confirmed that the duty investigating magistrate in Barcelona oversaw the formal removal of the body after what it described as the “violent death of a woman, allegedly at the hands of her partner”.

Judicial sources said there had been no previous complaints between the couple. The case will now pass to a specialist court dealing with violence against women.

Investigation under secrecy order

The sequence of events suggests the suspect travelled from Barcelona to Madrid after the body was discovered, before presenting himself to police and confessing. Authorities have not released his identity, and the circumstances of the killing remain under investigation.

Nou Barris, in the north of Barcelona, is one of the city’s largest districts and includes a mix of residential neighbourhoods and older apartment blocks. The official inquiry is continuing in Barcelona, where investigators are trying to reconstruct what happened inside the flat and when the woman died.
