Horses fill Fuengirola’s streets, welcoming everyone for a day full of tradition

Fuengirola streets are filled with horses, welcoming all for a traditional day.

Fuengirola’s annual horsey festival is back!

The festival is celebrating its ninth year.

Fuengirola’s ninth edition “Fuengirola a Caballo”, or Fuengirola a Caballo, will take place on Saturday 19th September. The beautiful town centre will become an equestrian exhibition all day starting at 11.30am and lasting until 10pm. Festivities take place across several locations, including Plaza de la Constitucion, the area around Plaza Reyes Catolicos and Avenida Condes de San Isidro.

Stand back and enjoy the traditional carriage displays, equestrian shows, horsewomen’s parade, plus the 48th Exhibicion de Enganches and the third International Traditional Harness Competition, held in memory of respected breeder Jose Luis Martín Lorca.

The celebration is not viewed as a separate event by the organizers. Officials refer to it as a warm-up before Fuengirola’s biggest annual celebration, the Feria del Rosario. It runs from 6-12 October. It has become a tradition to build excitement before the main fair.

Participants in the carriage races gather at 11:30 am for an introduction before starting and ending their route near the Plaza de Toros at noon. Equestrian shows entertain the crowds in Plaza de la Constitucion while musicians perform at Plaza Reyes Catolicos. The prize-giving ceremony for the harness competition and traditional competition will take place at 5:50pm, on Avenida Condes de San Isidro near Plaza Reyes Catolicos.

This equestrian event is now in its ninth edition. Plan ahead if you want to see the carriages or a performance. Visit the Fuengirola Town Hall’s website for more information
