You’ll want to keep the sunscreen handy if you plan on spending time outdoors this weekend.

After a few days of slightly cooler temperatures, the temperature is rising in many parts of Spain. In the next few days some of Spain’s hottest areas could return to near 40C. The good news is that you can go to the beaches.

Later in the day, the less predictable part comes into play.

AEMET According to the forecast, clouds will begin to form in parts of Spain inland from Saturday. This could bring showers or thunderstorms to some areas. However, most of Spain continues to bask under summer sun.

Two places, separated by only a few kilometers, can have completely different afternoons. One place has clear blue skies while the other is suddenly engulfed in dark clouds.

Heat is on the rise

The latest forecast tells us that the recent temperature drop will not last much longer.

The 12th of June marks the beginning of a new warmup in most of Spain. This increase is expected to be most noticeable in the northern regions, where temperatures will rise compared to earlier this week.

The list of the hottest spots in the country continues to include familiar names.

Seville, Córdoba and Badajoz are all expected to see temperatures approaching 40C, while many other areas remain well above what would normally be expected for mid-June.

On the Mediterranean Coast, there is plenty of sun and temperatures that are rising through Saturday.

Temperatures could be several degrees warmer in some parts of Galicia or the Cantabrian coastline than just a few short days ago.

What happens to the forecast after lunch?

It’s not the heat that makes this weekend’s weather forecast interesting. The interesting part is what could happen next.

AEMET anticipates increasing cloud formation across the inland peninsula by Saturday afternoon. As temperatures rise, the atmosphere becomes unstable and can lead to showers or thunderstorms.

This most likely occurs in the north west and inland regions.

This does not mean that it will be a wet weekend. In fact, there will be many sunny and dry places. However, some towns might experience heavy rains, thunderstorms and strong winds.

In Spain, June is a typical month. It’s a pretty typical pattern for June in Spain.

Next week might be even more unpredictable

The weekend forecast is largely positive, but meteorologists pay more attention to the Monday, June 15 forecast.

Forecast models show that the cooler air at higher altitudes in the atmosphere can help increase thunderstorms throughout inland Spain.

Most likely to be affected are mountainous areas such as the Pyrenees Mountains, the Cantabrian mountains, the Central System of Spain and parts Galicia.

In the afternoon, storms might spread to other areas, such as parts of Madrid and Andalusia. There could be strong wind gusts and hail in some storms, but it is still too early for us to know where the worst storms will form.

Spain is about to return to its summer heat.

Do not be surprised if there is a thunder rumble in the inland areas before this weekend.
