Five held after man stabbed in street row over parked motorbike

Police in Alicante have arrested five members of the same family after a 47-year-old man was stabbed in a daytime row over a parked motorbike that was blocking access for a van.

The National Police said the arrests were made on Friday, two days after the attack in the Juan XXIII Segundo Sector area, and that the suspects later appeared before a judge. Four were remanded in custody, while one was released after giving evidence.

Victim suffered serious wounds

The assault took place in the Pasaje Poeta Balart access to the block where the victim lives. Emergency services were called shortly before 2.30pm on Wednesday, and officers from both the National Police and Alicante Local Police attended alongside an ambulance.

According to the police investigation, the dispute began when the victim’s wife went downstairs after hearing complaints about the motorcycle, which had allegedly been left in a spot that made it hard for a van to pass. She then went back inside and her husband later came down to say he would move the bike.

Investigators said the argument escalated into a physical confrontation in which the man was first punched and then stabbed in the back. He was conscious when paramedics treated him and was taken to hospital in serious condition.

Investigation led by violent crime unit

The case has been handled by the violent crime unit of the National Police judicial brigade in Alicante. Detectives said the victim was able to identify the people involved and explained that they lived next door, which helped narrow the inquiry.

Police said the five arrested people, aged between 19 and 66, turned themselves in at Alicante provincial police headquarters on Friday. They were later brought before the investigating court on suspicion of attempted homicide.

The inquiry is continuing and the force has not said whether any further arrests are expected.
