Storm damage aid: 15 million euros for recovery of Andalucía’s agribusiness sector

The Junta’s governing council of regional ministers has authorised this Thursday a transfer of 15 million euros to cover direct aid of an exceptional nature to compensate the agricultural businesses that suffered losses resulting from the storms that battered Andalucía between November 2025 and February 2026.

The regional ministry for agriculture, fisheries and rural development administers these subsidies. They are intended to support olive mills, fruit and vegetable handling and conditioning centers, and feed, grain, and seed industries which meet the requirements.

The Junta considers that heavy rains have not only had a significant impact on production, but also directly affected the industrial fabric of agri-food. The flooding caused substantial material damage to buildings and equipment, but also led to increased fixed costs as a result of the decreased volume of raw materials from areas that were most severely affected.

In addition, the disruption of the supply chain and the cost of purchasing are also a factor. The ultimate goal of these subsidies is compensation for the losses suffered by the agroindustries. This will allow them to maintain employment in rural areas and revitalise the local economies. The aid helps to prevent the depopulation of rural areas by maintaining the living standards of the residents.

The Junta de Andalucía has also declared a state of emergency for repair work at the ports under regional management that also suffered storm damage. There is an action plan in place, supported by the regional ministry for development and planning, via the public ports agency for Andalucía (Appa).

This plan covers 35 projects including construction and project management at port facilities within the provinces Almeria Huelva Malaga. Extreme conditions were created by storms due to strong winds, heavy rainfall, and subsequent reservoir releases. These had an impact on the state and operations of regionally managed ports, as well as infrastructure.

A total of 6.9million euros (IVA inclusive) has been declared as emergency repairs for 35 projects within the regionally managed ports. The work includes where there has been a loss of stability and buoyancy in vessel mooring infrastructure for boats, such as La Laja and Sanlúcar de Guadiana, in Huelva province.

In provinces like Cadiz and Huelva, the damage to wave protection systems is being repaired.
