Fundacion Cudeca has been recognised at this year’s Andalucia + Social Awards, picking up an award in the volunteering category for its ‘Soy corazon Cudeca’ project.
In Cordoba the awards were presented to recognise the efforts of individuals and organisations who have improved participation and inclusion within society. The honors are based on 2025 and the results of the 8th edition of the BOJA Official Gazette have been published.
Cudeca has supported a large number of patients, families and caregivers.
Cudeca was founded by Joan Hunt as a non-profit organization in 1992. The foundation is known for its excellent work with people suffering from cancer and other serious illnesses. Since its founding, the organisation has provided free professional palliative healthcare to more than 21,000 patients as well as almost 2,400 families.
Cudeca offers not only physical care but also psychological, social and even spiritual support for patients and their families. Locally, it has become an important part of the local community. It offers care at patients’ homes, through its inpatient unit and its daycare and rehabilitation services. Also, it is known and appreciated for its volunteer activity and charitable activities along the Costa Del Sol.
The award-winning #SoyCorazonCudeca campaign, which Mijas also joined, came to an end in February 2025 after raising €127,504. That was above the original target of €125,000. According to the foundation’s estimates, this amount is needed to run nine home care teams and allow Cudeca care for an additional 211 patients in a year.
At the awards, two outstanding Malaga organisations were recognized.
The campaign aimed to bring together volunteers who would provide free, close-knit support for people with advanced illness and their families.
The Andalucía + Social Awards include 13 awards at Andalusian level, as well as one provincial award for each of the region’s eight provinces. Asociacion Alheli was awarded the distinction for Malaga. This organisation, founded in January 2016, supports those who are grieving after losing someone they love. It provides emotional and psychological assistance, as well as working to prevent suicide and promote mental health.
Cudeca was honoured for the volunteer project it runs, and Alheli received provincial recognition.
