Snowfall is in full force. ideal ski weather Expats and weekend tourists were likely to have been planning a mountain getaway at the last minute. Now may not be a good time to leave. Authorities in Andalucía have closed the main access road to the resort after damage to the carriageway was detected following recent storms, effectively cutting off vehicle access while engineers assess the risk.
The A-395, which leads to Pradollano (the main resort above Granada), is affected by the closure. After heavy rains in the region, signs of subsidence in the road surface were noticed.
Closed main access road
Regional officials have stated that the closure of the section was to prevent any accidents. Meanwhile, technicians will evaluate the structural integrity of the affected area. It is thought that the issue may be related to heavy rains in southern Spain, which have flooded the ground and caused infrastructure to weaken.
The A-395 has been closed by the traffic authorities in their official road updates. They have advised motorists that they should not attempt to climb the mountain towards Sierra Nevada until further notification. There is currently no definite date for reopening, and the inspections continue.
The closure shows how mountain access routes are vulnerable after severe weather. Heavy rains can cause landslides and erosion under the asphalt on roads that climb towards ski resorts.
What it means to travellers
The disruption will cause problems for visitors who have weekend plans. Sierra Nevada is one of the most popular winter escapes for residents across Andalucía and the Costa del Sol, especially during peak snow periods and school holidays.
