Guardia Civil has arrested two people after a violent street robbery in Las Norias de Daza, in El Ejido, where a man suffered serious head injuries and a broken wrist during an attack with a stick.
The robbery took place in the street and left the victim with a backpack, a mobile phone and €300 stolen, according to the force. The arrests were made after officers tracked down the suspects in the same area.
Emergency call led officers to the victim
The case began with a 062 emergency call reporting that a person was being assaulted in the public street. When officers from the Guardia Civil in El Ejido reached the scene, they found a man with head wounds and a badly swollen left wrist.
Medical treatment later confirmed that the wrist was fractured. The victim told investigators that two people had attacked him with a stick before taking his backpack, which contained the phone and cash.
On the basis of that account, officers began checks in the immediate area around the incident. Their initial search led them to one of the suspects, who was arrested as a suspected offender in a violent robbery.
Second suspect later located
Police continued their investigation to establish the role of the second person named by the victim and to find where that suspect had gone. Guardia Civil later located that person too and made a second arrest.
With both arrests completed, investigators said the assault had been solved. The two detainees were handed over to the duty court in El Ejido, specifically the Civil and Investigating Section of Court No 4.
The force has not given any indication that further suspects are being sought. The article published locally said the investigation was carried out by Guardia Civil officers from El Ejido, who handled the scene response and the subsequent search.
The case comes as another reminder of the kind of street violence police in the area are still being asked to deal with, particularly when robberies escalate into assaults. In this incident, officers were able to identify and detain both suspects soon after the attack.
