Trump calls for investigation into death of Spanish gang-rape victim, 25, by euthanasia: US president hits out at ‘systemic human rights failures’

The Trump administration wants answers from Spain after Noelia Casillo, 25, decided to end her life through euthanasia in the last week.

The State Department has instructed the US Embassy to Madrid to launch an investigation into how the Spanish police handled the sexual assaults against Castillo, which led her to attempt suicide and left her paralysed.

A leaked diplomatic cable obtained from an American newspaper revealed the complaint The Post.

Senior officials at the US Embassy were also instructed to convey to the Spanish government the Trump administration’s serious concerns regarding the numerous ‘systemic human rights failings’ that led Castillo to seek assisted suicide.

The administration was concerned that the terminal action was carried out despite her reportedly expressing hesitation in her last hours.

“We were aware of reports that indicated Ms Castillo was reluctant to have her euthanasia performed in her last hours but these indications had been ignored,” the administration stated.

“This case raises significant concerns regarding the application of Spain’s euthanasia laws, particularly when cases involve non-terminal and psychiatric suffering.”

According to the Trump administration, Castillo’s sexual assaults before age 21 could have been caused by a lax immigration policy.

The Trump Administration is demanding an investigation of Spanish law enforcement.

The cable stated: “We are looking into allegations that the sexual abuse of Ms Castillo may have been perpetrated in part by migrants.”

“Mass and unauthorized migration is a concern for human rights, and Spain’s facilitation and encouragement of mass and unauthorized migration poses a serious threat to Spanish citizens.”

The US Embassy is instructed to cooperate with Spanish authorities and investigate the rapists. They are also to determine their migration status as well the legal barriers that police face in pursuing potential suspects.

No evidence suggests that Noelia’s attackers were immigrants.

The State Department has asked US Embassy officials in Spain to communicate these concerns by April 3 to the Spanish Government.

Last week, Castillo died while wearing her ‘prettiest dress’ after being given a lethal cocktail of three drugs that stopped her heart within 20 minutes.

Her father tried for 18 months to stop the euthanasia, but lost his legal battle.
