Spanish singer Julio Iglesias denies sex-abuse allegations

The legendary singer Julio Iglesias of Spain has released a statement in which he denies sexually abusing his two former domestic staff who have filed criminal charges against him.

This was after he denied it in a telephone call to Hola! The magazine of Wednesday

The National Court of Madrid has opened an investigation into the complaint, which was made by a rights group. It involved forced labour and servitude for human trafficking as well as sexual abuse and violations to workers’ rights.

The incidents are said to have taken place at the mansions of the 82 year old singer in the Bahamas, and Dominican Republic.

Iglesias’ statement on social media read: “It’s with deep sadness that I respond the allegations made by two former employees of mine.”

He said: “I’ve never felt malice before, but I have the courage to tell the truth and defend myself against such serious accusations.”

The singer also thanked the ‘so many dear people who have sent me messages of affection and loyalty’, adding: “I have found great comfort in them.”

Women’s Link Worldwide, after three years of investigation by American broadcaster, filed a complaint in January on behalf the two women identified as Rebeca or Laura. Univision The Spanish Online Portal elDiario.es.

The group described the complainants as young Latin American women ‘in vulnerable situations who were heavily dependent on their wages due to their economic and social conditions’.

The workers worked for Iglesias in 2021 for 10 months.

A friend of the singer, Jaime Peñafiel, branded the accusations as ‘absolute lies’, while another confidant, journalist Miguel Angel Pastor, said he had never heard ‘any suggestion that he might have committed this kind of act’.
