After Storm Ingrid, and Spain’s National Meteorological Agency. Aemet. has issued another warning about another storm.  Joseph, expected to bring several Amber and Red alerts for heavy rainfallIn the next few hours, there will be strong winds and significant snowfall in large areas of the country. This storm is a continuation of the effects caused by storm Ingrid which have already disrupted Spain.

Authorities are warning residents to be prepared, avoid unnecessary traveling, and follow local updates. Emergency services have been alerted across the country, and local councils are working together to respond quickly to any incidents that may be caused by extreme weather.

Current Situation

Ingrid, the storm, has already caused road closures, suspensions of schools, and dangerous travel conditions in northern, eastern, central and southern regions. Some areas have seen snowfall at low elevations, while coastal communities have been affected by strong winds and large sea waves. Residents in the affected regions were advised to secure their properties, avoid coastal areas, take extreme care on flooded and icy roads, and avoid coastal areas.

Galicia authorities have implemented emergency protocols in order to deal with flooding and heavy rain. Travel is difficult in multiple provinces of central, southern and eastern Spain due to the accumulation of snow and water on roads. Emergency services responded to incidents, while also monitoring other potential at-risk areas.

Storm Joseph: Forecast

Aemet has forecast that Joseph will affect several regions of Spain. Heavy rainfall and winds are predicted in the north and northwest. In the central plateau (including Madrid and Castilla-La Mancha), there will be persistent rain and gusty wind, and snow in higher elevations. The northeast, including Aragón and Catalonia, will face intense rainfall and snowfall in mountain ranges such as the Pyrenees and Sistema Ibérico.

Southern and eastern regions, including Andalucía, Valencia, Balearics and Murcia, are also expected to see heavy rain and strong winds, particularly along the coast and in mountainous zones. The south coast may be affected by storm surges, waves and flooding. Inland valleys are also susceptible to localised flooding because of the recent rain.

The authorities have taken precautionary measures across the country, such as advising motorists that they should use winter tyres and carry snow chains. They also prepared road maintenance equipment and deployed civil protection teams. Residents are encouraged to stock up on basic supplies for the event of a temporary snowstorm or flooding.

Impacts on the whole country

Joseph is predicted to have a large impact both on the coast and inland areas. While the central and northern regions are battling persistent rain, strong winds and high waves, the western and northern provinces can expect snow and strong winds. In the south and east of Spain, heavy rain, strong winds and flooding may occur in both urban and rural areas.

Ingrid’s residual effects and Joseph’s combined effect can cause road closures, disruptions of transport and property damage in the United States. Residents are advised not to travel unless absolutely necessary, to avoid wind and water-exposed buildings, and to follow the official instructions of local authorities. Emergency services are monitoring the affected areas, and ready to respond in all parts of the country.

Aemet says that the weather pattern is likely to continue for a few days. Joseph will move across the peninsula and affect all regions. The rain will continue to fall in central, northern and southern Spain. Snow is still a threat for mountain ranges across the country. Authorities emphasize the importance to follow official Aemet instructions and alerts in order stay safe and minimise disturbance.

Residents are urged to be vigilant in all parts of Spain, especially those areas that are prone to flooding and windy conditions. Heavy rain, wind gusts, and snow are likely to cause problems for infrastructure, transport, and emergency services. Residents and authorities should be prepared and plan carefully.
