Simply Thriving’s Late Summer Soirée raises €5,600 for AFA Fuengirola – Mijas’ therapeutic garden

The Costa del Sol’s spirit of generosity was on show on Tuesday, October 14, as entertainer Nathan Dean and Val Williams of the Simply Thriving Group presented a cheque for €5,600 to AFA Fuengirola Mijas, the Alzheimer’s and dementia support charity, at the AFA residence in Fuengirola on Tuesday, October 14.

The funds, raised during the sold-out Late Summer Soirée on September 16 at Miraflores Golf Club, will support the creation of a therapeutic vegetable garden at AFA’s Los Pacos centre, which will offer patients and families a nurturing outdoor space for gardening activities.

Late Summer Soiree huge success for Simply Thriving & AFA

The Late Summer Soirée, hosted by Simply Thriving and led by Nathan Dean’s charismatic performance, was a resounding success, filling all 160 seats, and more, and surpassed fundraising expectations. The Costa del Sol community came together to celebrate compassion and unity. Nathan Gosley’s soulful voice, witty wit and dedication to Alzheimer’s patients and those with dementia were the highlights of this event. His wife Jo Gosley ensured that everything ran smoothly. Distinguished guests, including Mijas councillor Mario Bravo and AFA president Paqui Lebron, joined the festivities, with AFA’s Emilio Mogollón highlighting the charity’s mission to support 102 individuals, with over 50 more on a waiting list.

Val Williams expressed her gratitude to Nathan and Jo for their unwavering help, especially when she was recovering from a hip operation. The €5,600 raised brings Simply Thriving’s total contributions to AFA to over €11,000. Nathan Dean, a proud Nathan Dean of the amount raised, announced that he plans to return to the charity next year and raise even more money.

“This garden will provide a vital space for AFA’s patients to connect with nature and their families,” said Emilio Mogollón. “We are grateful for the generosity of Simply Thriving and Nathan as well as the Costa del Sol Community.”
