Safety Beacons for Cars in Spain
New safety warning devices are coming in To replace the warning triangles that are currently used by drivers in Spain. Every Spanish-registered car, van and minibus must be equipped with a V16 signal from the 1st of January 2026. Drivers without the beacon will face an €80 fine.
V16 Beacon: One of its main advantages The magnets on the roof allow it to be mounted without the driver needing to exit the vehicle. The beacon emits 360-degree amber flashing lights that can be seen up to a mile away.

Geolocation for faster response
Geolocation is included in the DGT-approved beacons They are also connected to DGT’s central platform for traffic management. The location can be shared automatically when the beacons are activated. Every 100 seconds, the beacon sends the exact GPS location of the vehicle to DGT’s cloud-based system.
Location sharing will allow for a quicker response In emergency situations and breakdowns. The DGT will alert emergency services and inform other drivers by way of roadside message panels. It can also adjust traffic warnings.
DGT Approved beacons
The V16 beacon costs between €35 and €55. Only those approved for use on Spanish cars by the DGT are allowed. On the webpage, you can find a list. official website here. Often, cheaper models will not be compliant to the new regulations as they are older V16 beacons that lack GPS/DGT connectivity.
