Benalmádena is again hosting a large-scale event to mark the feast of St George on Thursday 23 April, an event organised to honour a saint identified with English ideals of honour, bravery and gallantry.

The ‘Cool Britannia’ festivities will take place in Plaza de la Mezquita in Arroyo de la Miel from midday to 8pm and offers a variety of live music and entertainment performed by some of the Costa’s favourites. The Landstrikers are among the performers, as well as Gordon Williams, Jai Northover and Wayne Ward.

St George is the patron saint of England and Aragon, as well as Catalonia. Organisers of the event hope to attract a wider audience than the patriotic English.

Visitors are encouraged dress in fancy-dress, or at the very least, in their patron’s colors, and the square will have a typical English flair.

There will be plenty of English food and drinks, as well as activities to keep the children entertained.
