Primera RFEF: Antequera CF stun the leaders to take a giant step towards safety

Primera RFEF – Antequera CF shock the leaders and take a giant leap towards safety

The only positive result for Malaga teams in Primera RFEF (the third tier) was the win by Antequera CF.

Antequera’s win has significantly improved their chances of survival, while Marbella FC is now closer to being relegated and Juventud de Torremolinos remains without a victory since March.

Antequera 2–1 Eldense

Antequera, which had been on a seven-match winning streak against Eldense before Saturday’s match, made a huge step in the right direction.

After Barbu scored after only five minutes, the team continued to press forward despite Dioni, a former Malaga CF player, scoring an equaliser in the second period. Eventually, their persistence paid off when Gené netted the winner on 81 minutes.

The team was marginally better throughout the match and is now seven points clear of drop zone. This puts them in a good position for a trip to Betis B at the weekend.

Marbella 0–1 Sabadell

Marbella was beaten badly by Sabadell despite dominating for large periods.

Their opponents had been reduced to just ten players early on. They were able to create more opportunities, but they could not convert them into goals.

Sabadell, after weathering the storm and taking the lead in the 90th minutes through Godoy, reclaimed their top position.

Marbella remains in deep trouble. They are ten point from safety and have only four games left.

Tarazona 0–0 Torremolinos

Torremolinos’ winless run extended to five games on Sunday, when they were held at a deadlock by fellow struggling side Tarazona.

The team was slightly better but they could not break through in a tight encounter. They are still only one point away from safety, and their fate is in their hands.

Under Carlos Alós, they are yet to secure a victory, and a difficult home clash against promotion-chasing Atlético Madrileño awaits next.
