From December 1, residents of the western Costa del Sol can enjoy a new metro bus service. M-060It will connect Fuengirola to Marbella via a major stop in La Cala de Mijas.
The new route improves the public transport options on one of most congested coast stretches. Fuengirola to La Cala daily trips will go up from 64 to around 96. This is a 50% increase. The new route will also stop on the well-known roundabout “Rotonda dela Ford” located in Avenida de Mijas. Residents of the area can now access the service easily without a car.
It is expected that the increased frequency and direct connection to Marbella will offer thousands of residents an alternative to private cars and, hopefully, ease the chronic traffic jams along the A-7 highway during rush hour and summer months. There is still no timetable for some reason. However, it will hopefully be posted on Monday at the bus stop.
A new route, which is expected to be operational in the spring of 2026 as part of the next round concessions for routes, will also include a stop near the Costa del Sol Hospital. This will allow people in Mijas and Fuengirola, as well as the surrounding urbanisations, to easily access the main public hospital of the region via public transport. Many no longer need to drive to their medical appointments or use taxis.
The improvements are part a larger push to encourage greater public transport use along the Costa del Sol. The demand for bus cards has increased dramatically in the last few years. This reflects a shift among locals to bus services, when they are reliable and frequent.
Arrival of M-060, as well as the hospital link that will be built, represents a major improvement in the mobility of residents of La Cala de Mijas (Mijas), Fuengirola (Fuengirola) and Marbella.
