Muriqi’s magic strike secures crucial win for Real Mallorca against Getafe

Muriqi’s magic strike gives Real Mallorca a crucial victory against Getafe

A sensational first-half strike from Vedat Muriqi handed Real Mallorca a priceless 1–0 win over Getafe at Son Moix on the evening of Sunday November 9 2025.

In front of 17,507 fans, the Kosovan forward’s 12th-minute goal proved decisive as the island side claimed just their second home win of the season – a result that lifted them clear of the relegation zone heading into the two-week international break.

Early on, the game’s most important moment occurred when Samu Costa, who had been reenergized by his teammates, sent a precision through ball along the left flank of the pitch to Johan Mojica. The Colombian fullback crossed the ball with an inch-perfect accuracy into the penalty area. Muriqi was unmarked and calmly placed the ball on the inside of his left foot. The striker’s sixth season goal was a reminder of how important he is to Javier Aguirre.

Getafe continued to dominate possession after Mallorca took the lead. However, 21-year-old goalkeeper Lucas Bergström, standing at an imposing 6ft 10in, rose to the challenge. The Finnish goalkeeper, who was making his second appearance after joining on loan, made a crucial save before halftime to maintain Mallorca’s narrow advantage.

Bergström’s performance showed marked improvement from his tough debut in the 3–0 defeat to Real Betis, though his distribution under pressure still left room for improvement. In the closing minutes, a rare mistake from the keeper almost handed Getafe an equaliser, but defender Martin Valjent was alert to clear the danger off the line – ensuring Mallorca’s hard-earned clean sheet remained intact.

Getafe put pressure on in the second period

Getafe’s trademark gamesmanship was evident in the second-half, with the team attempting to disrupt match rhythm by using exaggerated tackles, and time-wasting. Liso’s theatrics were particularly bad, but referee De Burgos Bengoechea remained firm and refused to be influenced.

Getafe’s dominance in set-pieces was not rewarded with goals, despite the fact that they had a higher possession ratio and won 16 corners to Mallorca’s one. Mallorca had several chances to increase their lead. Midfielder Sergio Darder squandered the best opportunity when he found himself through on goal, only to fire straight at Getafe’s goalkeeper, David Soria – a miss reminiscent of his earlier chance against Levante two weeks prior.

Son Moix fans celebrated and felt relief at the final whistle. This gritty display, and the three crucial points it earned, gave hope and optimism in the weeks to come after a tough start to the season.

With Muriqi back among the goals and Bergström growing in confidence, Real Mallorca now have a platform to build on. The timing of this victory couldn’t be better – giving the players and fans alike a reason to smile as they head into the international break with momentum on their side.
