The opening weekend of the Finnish Baseball League will be held in Fuengirola on the 25th and 26th April. Both men and women will compete.
The Elola Sports Complex is expected to attract more than 4,500 spectators, while the average television audience in Finland is estimated at around 240,000 viewers.
Fuengirola has been hosting pre-season camps for teams across the league. Not just the ones involved in the first fixtures.
The women’s fixture between Joensuun Maila and Oulun Lippo will take place this Saturday, followed by the men’s game between Alajärven Ankkurit and Pattijoen Urheilijat on Sunday. Both matches will be played at the Jesús Gámez pitch.
Eighth edition in Fuengirola
Fuengirola is hosting the competition for the 8th time, excluding the years 2020 and 2021 that were interrupted due to the pandemic. The previous editions attracted 24,145 spectators in total, and an average of 3,500 people per year.
Live broadcasts of matches are available in all parts of Finland. Average viewing figures average around 240,000, and peak audiences can reach up to one hundred thousand.
Local Sports councillor Julio Rodríguez said he was “very happy” that the town was once again hosting the league’s opening weekend, organised by Superpesis.
Fugepesis is the Finnish name for Fuengirola.
