Fuengirola is set to host a truly unique and extraordinary musical event next Thursday, November 13, with a flamenco harp concert by the renowned Jerez-born artist, Ana Crismán. The performance will be held at Casa de la Cultura Manuel Delgado Perea.
Ana Crismán It is said that she is the best flamenco guitarist. She masters the compás (flamenco rhythm) and has extremely skilful hands that translate this extraordinary difficult and beautiful instrument, the harp, with a flamenco style, resulting in very beautiful and sophisticated sound.
She is one of a kind in that she was the first person to compose and perform flamenco music on the harp. Her music is considered to be a breakthrough and the “Kilometre 0,” of a new flamenco discipline. While she is self-taught on the harp, Crismán holds a professional degree in piano and a degree in history and sciences of music from the University of Granada. Her strong academic and classical background helped her to integrate the harp successfully into the flamenco framework.
A revolutionary talent
She fell in love the harp on a trip to Ireland. Born in Jerez de la Frontera (the heartland for flamenco), she was introduced to the instrument during her childhood. After her return she spent the rest of her life mastering the harp, adapting it for the rhythms and styles of flamenco.
The self-taught artist is credited with creating a new chapter in musical history by releasing the first-ever album of flamenco harp, titled “Arpaora”—a fusion of the Spanish words “arpa” (harp) and “cantaora” (flamenco singer). The album gives the harp a central role, exploring the sound of flamenco through her own compositions.
