Feeling and passion – a photographic celebration of the people in Andalucia’s Holy Week

On the Costa del Sol, a stunning new photography exhibit is sure to captivate audiences. On Friday 23 January, at 7pm the Casa de la Cultura de Las Lagunas inaugurates “Sentimiento y PasiónEnrique Moya is a self-taught, talented photographer who has produced a stunning collection of black-and-white photographs. The public can view the show until 26th February. It offers a unique perspective on Andalucia’s famous Semana Santa (Holy Week).

Moya’s photographs focus on the human element, rather than the elaborate icons and procession floats that are the norm in the conventional images of these events. His photos capture the deep emotions, quiet faith and vulnerability that are revealed behind the show. Monochrome is used to evoke silence and introspection. It also reveals the inner landscapes and emotions of the participants and observers.

Moya: “I invite viewers contemplate silence, faith and vulnerability behind every gesture.” Self-taught, his journey with the camera began back in 1987. He has spent years exploring portraiture to uncover personal identity. His art goes beyond the surface, exploring hidden meanings revealed by a person’s demeanour and gaze.

The images in “Sentimiento y Pasión” were taken across various cities and villages in Andalusia. Moya deliberately avoids detailed depictions of the traditional religious figures and floats — subjects he believes have been beautifully and exhaustively documented by others. He prefers to use emotion and suggestion rather than documentation. Each photograph tells an intimate story of humanity in the midst of religious observances, by highlighting forgotten details and fleeting movements that convey deep feelings.

These powerful scenes are a reflection of Moya’s philosophy. More than simply reproducing reality, Moya aims to suggest that it exists, and invites viewers to connect to the raw human experiences at the heart this centuries-old practice.

The exhibition is open to the public during normal gallery hours. Photographers and Andalusian culture enthusiasts are encouraged to visit the exhibition during its run or attend the opening. The Casa de la Cultura de Las Lagunas is located at c/ San Valentín, Las Lagunas de Mijas.
