Cudeca Hospice and the Provincial Council of Malaga have appealed to the public, businesses and institutions for an immediate boost in support for the “Eres una Pieza Clave” (You Are a Key Piece) campaign, which aims to raise €355,000 to guarantee the continued operation of the organisation’s vital Inpatient Unit.
Launched in November 2025, the initiative has so far collected €110,000, a figure that reflects genuine community unity but still leaves a major gap with the deadline approaching.
Cudeca centre reaches a turning point
Speaking at a press conference in Benalmadena, Marisa Martín, Chief Executive and Medical Director of Cudeca Hospice, described the current moment as decisive:
“What we raised shows that people will respond to a need when they are aware of it. But it also shows we need a final, powerful effort. “Whether we reach, or fall short of the target, will determine whether Cudeca is able to maintain the comprehensive, family-centred, and compassionate care that’s been the hallmark of Cudeca over the past thirty years.”
The Inpatient unit provides specialist palliative services to about 240 patients and families every year. This includes not only the best medical and nursing care, but also important psychological, emotional and social support. Its sustainability, like many palliative services, depends on public funding and donations from the community.
Cudeca and Provincial Council have announced a special incentive to boost the campaign’s final phase. The incentive is designed to encourage and recognize donors’ participation. It will be revealed during the mid-week beginning 19 January. More details will be released shortly.
Diputación de Málaga partners with Cudeca
Provincial representatives stressed the shared social responsibility that is involved: “Palliative health care is a service essential and a commitment collective.” Cudeca is a great organization and by standing with them in this call, we acknowledge its extraordinary value. We encourage Malaga’s people to be actively involved during this crucial moment.
Marisa Martín expressed particular gratitude to the Provincial Council of Malaga for its consistent, empathetic and committed partnership over many years.
Cudeca reaffirmed that each donation is important, regardless of its size. All donations made to the campaign are eligible for significant tax benefits, which are available both to individuals and companies.

Cudeca Hospice was founded by Joan Hunt in 1992. Since then, it has provided free professional palliative health care to over 21,000 patients, and thousands of their family members. Its philosophy remains unchanged: while days cannot be added to life, life can be added to days — through dignity, comfort and holistic accompaniment until the very end.
Cudeca and Provincial Council of Malaga call on all to contribute. Each and every care is important. Every piece counts
