Nerja hosts a Christmas Symphonic Concert which will transport you from the ballrooms of Vienna, to the sun-drenched shores of Andalusia.
On Sunday, December 14 at 12.30pm the New Symphony Orchestra (NESO) The group will perform their show “From Vienna To Nerja” in the Centro Cultural Villa de Nerja. This modern, welcoming venue is known for its great acoustics as well as its central location along Calle Granada.
The New Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1991 as an alternative to the state-sponsored institutions in Bulgaria by music critic Julia Hristova. It has created a unique model of culture that focuses on nurturing young talents. From the start, it has served as both a school and a professional platform for musicians aged 18–27, emphasising respect for personal opinions, equal opportunities, and a deep love for the process of making music. As Hristova stated, “The most important goal in our work is not the concert, but one’s love in the process of ‘making’ music.” Over 800 young musicians passed through the ranks of this organization, and many are now playing in major orchestras all over the world.
Under the skilled baton of conductor Francisco Javier Fernández Pereira, the orchestra will bring to life festive works by renowned composers Johann Strauss, Edward Elgar, and Franz von Suppé. The program combines the joyous spirit of Viennese Waltzes and Polkas with inspiring overtures and classic pieces that are perfectly suited for the holiday season. Cristina Carmona Fuentes will handle the production in collaboration with oV LiGero Cultura to ensure a stunning and polished presentation.
This midday matinee allows locals and expats to experience the classic music spectacle in the festive atmosphere of Nerja’s Christmas celebrations. With its charming streets adorned for the holidays and proximity to the famous Balcón de Europa, the town provides an ideal backdrop for such a wonderful cultural highlight.
Tickets are priced at an affordable €15 and can be purchased directly at the Centro Cultural Villa de Nerja’s box office at the town hall. Early booking is advised as Nerja’s holiday events are often a magnet for large crowds.
This concert is not only a celebration of timeless European classical traditions, but it also enhances Nerja’s vibrant cultural calendar. It’s a must-attend for music fans and those who want to improve their holiday cheer. Whether you’re a resident or a tourist exploring the Axarquía region, this performance promises an afternoon of elegance, emotion, and holiday magic.
