Australian-born chef Mathew Lee, a long-time resident of Mijas, has been awarded the coveted All Stars red jacket in recognition of his remarkable achievements with Koala Catering & Events.
The award, given by Grupo all Stars, recognizes Lee as being one of Andalusia’s top 50 chefs. He joins four other Mijas chefs who already have the distinction.
Launched this spring, Koala Catering & Events has quickly become a star on the Costa del Sol, offering an innovative private chef service starting at €30 per person for groups of 10 or more. The service highlights local, fresh ingredients, authentic global dishes, and a warm dining experience tailored for clients. The venture, which focuses on creating happiness, has a long list of clients waiting to be served. It is one of Europe’s leading catering concepts.
“Mathew’s ability to inspire joy and learning through his food is what sets him apart,” said María Asenjo, director of Grupo All Stars. Angel Marco, the president of Grupo All Stars, presented Lee with a red jacket at La Bordelesa in La Cala de Mijas, a gourmet restaurant that has been a culinary phenomenon in only four months.
Lee, who has lived in Mijas, Spain for more than a decade, said he was proud of his contribution to the town’s reputation as a gourmet hotspot. “Mijas has always been my home and I feel honoured to be able to showcase its potential as an international culinary hub,” he stated.
Grupo All Stars is a leading Andalusian Gourmet brand that continues to elevate the status of Mijas gourmet scene. They have plans to promote the culinary image of the town during the holiday season. The red jacket initiative is supported by the sustainable water filtration company AUA and highlights the region’s commitment to innovation. Lee joins other Mijas chefs—Lupe Reina, Esteban Sedeño, Fran Peinado, and Salvio Cantone—in earning this prestigious honour.
