This evening is a journey of Bop, Hard Bop Soul Jazz, Boogaloo, and more.
Lou Donaldson’s legacy
Lou Donaldson, alto saxophonist of the Bop Era, is regarded as one of its most important players. As a noted Charlie Parker follower, Donaldson’s career included leading influential combos alongside major figures like Blue Mitchell, Art Blakey and Percy Heath. In 1953, he recorded alongside Clifford Brown, Philly Joe Jones and the Jazz Messengers.
Donaldson is known for his musical signature, which includes his alto saxophone and electric organ. He has collaborated with jazz organ icons like Jimmy Smith or Brother Jack Mcduff. This tribute is meant to show his impact on a wide range of stylistic aesthetics.
