Arctic blast to bring chilly nights to Spain in mid-May with yellow alerts for high winds – Here’s where

Air masses of unseasonably cold air from Greenland are racing at high speeds towards the Iberian Peninsula. They are expected to bring a dramatic change in weather starting on Thursday.

Iberian Peninsula will experience cold weather due to a mass of air.

Temperatures in the northern third zone and interior zones are expected to drop rapidly on Thursday. The temperature drop will be so sharp that freezing air will blow in to southern, east and coastal areas.

Winter temperatures expected to be very low in Northern and Interior Spain

Peak cold strikes during Saturday morning The thermal plunge will reach its bottom in the interior peninsular regions. A partly cloudy sky and calmer winds will lead to a rapid overnight cooling, which will produce surprisingly cold temperatures. Frosts are expected to return in inland locations. In particular, higher elevations where the dawn will bring sub-zero temperatures.

The temperatures have risen slightly, but the afternoons are still very cool. Despite this, temperatures in large areas of Spain’s interior could be below 15 degrees Celsius. Many parts in the south and East will have an autumnal atmosphere.

Yellow warnings issued for strong coastal winds in Andalucia

The month of May is halfway over and the patterns are once again variable. In Andalucia, weak showers should remain isolated throughout the Costa del Sol area and Almeria. Cooler temperatures and strong coastal winds will prevail. AEMET – the State Meteorological Agency has issued yellow alerts in three provinces This region is a great place to start.

There are warnings for winds of up to 60 km/hr in the west and south-west on Friday 15th, between 4am and 10:00pm. This includes the whole coastal area from Estepona all the way to Murcia. The Mediterranean coast will be dominated by strong westerlies in the late weeks, with high gusts triggering coastal alerts for Granada and Almeria. Forecasts indicate mostly clear skies, which will gradually turn cloudy. Medium clouds are expected inland. Weak to moderate showers over the Sierras and the eastern third of the country seem more likely. The maximum afternoon temperatures are generally reduced, ranging from 21 degrees in Jaen to 26 degrees in Malaga and Seville.

Balearic Islands are expected to experience isolated thunderstorms and drizzle on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
