This Sunday, the weather in southern Spain has improved. After the heavy rain caused by the passage storm Claudia through Andalucía over the past few days, the region has experienced a calmer day with no active warnings. Antonio Sanz, regional minister of health and emergency, downgraded early this morning the flood plan to the “pre-emergency” phase, after the worst weather conditions, which had hit Huelva in particular and Seville in general, Cordoba in particular and Cadiz where amber alerts were in place yesterday, have been overcome.
After the storm there won’t be any immediate calm. Spain’s state weather agency (Aemet), has issued a new warning for Monday, 17th November. The warning is a yellow one in Cadiz Province. It warns of “locally heavy rainfall and persistent rain” that will affect the coast of Cadiz from Monday morning to 9pm. The forecast is for accumulated rain of up 15mm per hour. This could amount to up 40mm over 12 hours.
The regional forecast points to a Monday marked in Andalucía by “cloudy or very cloudy skies with weak to moderate rainfall, more likely and intense on the Atlantic coast and the Strait area, where they can be locally strong and persistent and be accompanied by occasional thunderstorms”. Temperatures will fall and winds will blow from the West, with strong intervals in the Atlantic coast area during the morning.
Almeria will see the highest temperatures, at 21C. Huelva, Seville, and Granada will experience the lowest temperatures, with 6C and 8, respectively.
