Last week I was invited to join a team getaway.
It was called the Mediterranean Golf Experience. I had heard the concept was already popular in parts of Europe, but this was the first time I experienced it here in Spain.
And honestly it surprised me in the best way.
The idea was simple: colleagues stepping out of the office for a calm, outdoor day together. No pressure. No competition. Just movement, fresh air and shared time.
Some people in the group had played golf before. Others had never touched a club. But that didn’t matter. What struck me most was how quickly the atmosphere changed once everyone was outside.
People relaxed. Laughed. Encouraged each other. Conversations flowed naturally, not like work talk, but real connection. Titles and roles faded. People were simply people again.
And while I was part of it, I realised something important:
This day contained all the elements that make Mediterranean living so powerful for health and wellbeing.
Movement outdoors.
Natural daylight.
Calm pace.
Shared meals.
Social connection.
Enjoyment without pressure.
These are not luxuries they are human needs. And when they come together, something shifts inside people. Energy rises. Stress drops. Mood improves. Connection deepens.
After the activity, we gathered at a chosen venue for drinks and tapas, followed by a relaxed three-course meal. Sunlight still warm, conversations easy, laughter present. And you could feel what had happened without anyone needing to say it.
The team felt different.
Closer. Lighter. More connected.
I could see it in everyone, not only enjoyment in the moment, but a lasting good feeling. The kind that comes from being together in a natural, human way.
Moments like this matter more than many companies realise.
When people who carry the daily work of an organisation feel appreciated, seen and connected, something shifts. Motivation rises. Trust grows. Teams become stronger and naturally more productive.
This is why Mediterranean cultures place such value on shared time outdoors, shared meals and shared experiences. Not as entertainment but as part of a healthy way of living.
What impressed me most was how accessible it was. Even those who had never played golf enjoyed it fully. Because it wasn’t about sport it was about experience.
A calm, enjoyable way of being together.
I left that day thinking: this is not just a team outing.
It’s the Mediterranean lifestyle applied to modern work life.
Mediterranean tip of the week
