Police activity outside a public car park in Benidorm

Two men held after violent robbery of elderly victim

Police in Benidorm have arrested two men after an older man was punched and robbed of his backpack in a public car park, with officers later recovering the stolen mobile phones.

The National Police said the victim was walking to his car when a stranger approached him, struck him and snatched the bag he was carrying. The backpack contained personal documents and two phones.

Officers were sent to the scene after the alarm was raised through the CIMACC 091 emergency centre. A patrol spoke to the victim, who gave a description of the suspect and what had been taken, allowing police to begin a search of the surrounding area.

During the operation, officers spotted two men in a nearby street. One was carrying a backpack and appeared to be handing over an item to the other. Police stopped and searched both men, and found the victim’s documents and the two stolen phones inside the bag.

According to police, the first suspect admitted he was trying to sell the devices, while the second said he was trying to buy them. Both men, aged 25 and 32, were arrested on suspicion of robbery with violence and handling stolen goods.

After police completed their inquiries, the pair were taken before the duty courts in Benidorm.
