Police detain surf instructor over alleged sexual assaults on minors

Police in Alicante have detained a 46-year-old surf instructor over allegations that he sexually assaulted ten underage girls during a paddle surf activity he was leading.

The National Police said the case began after the director of a language school reported inappropriate touching involving a group of German students who were on an exchange visit.

According to the police account, officers then identified the alleged victims and took statements that pointed to the same instructor as the suspected offender.

The force said the girls described the contact as deliberate and unwelcome, and that one of them confronted the man about his behaviour during the activity.

Once investigators had identified the suspect, they mounted a police operation that led to his arrest on suspicion of ten offences of sexual assault.

After the initial police inquiries were completed, he was brought before the duty investigating court in Alicante.

The case remains at the investigation stage and the suspect is presumed innocent unless and until a court rules otherwise.
