Guardia Urbana officers on a Barcelona street near a metro entrance

Man held after walking into street with two loaded pistols

A man has been arrested in Barcelona after Guardia Urbana officers said they found him carrying two loaded pistols during a routine police check near the Meridiana.

The incident happened on Halloween, when officers were carrying out identification work in the area and became suspicious after the man stepped out of the Clot metro station and approached them in a confrontational manner.

Officers say he moved towards them aggressively

According to the police account, the man began shouting at the officers and made xenophobic remarks before closing in on one of them. The patrol then intervened and restrained him on the ground before he could reach for anything in his clothing.

Once the area was secured, officers searched him and found two firearms hidden on his body. One of the pistols was reportedly ready for immediate use and both were loaded with ammunition.

He told officers he had no licence

Police said the suspect admitted he did not hold any firearm licence and claimed the weapons had been in his possession for years. He was arrested on suspicion of illegal possession of weapons and has already appeared before a judge.

An investigation remains open to establish where the pistols came from and why he was carrying them in public.
