Night spinning returns to Fuengirola marina this Friday for Alzheimer’s families

This Friday, night spinning will return to Fuengirola Marina for families with Alzheimer’s.

Fuengirola’s fourth outdoor spinning night takes place on Friday, 18 September. The classes begin at 7pm on the central square in the marina. Around 100 exercise bikes are lined up to accommodate anyone who wants an hour of aerobic biking under the light of the night. Every euro from the €10 entry fee goes straight to AFA Fuengirola-Mijas, the local association supporting people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias and the relatives who look after them.

The council has encouraged all residents to register, saying that a sporty night in an amazing location will also support AFA’s daily work. Coliseo instructors will lead the sessions, and provide the exercise bikes. Sign up in Coliseo, on Calle Antonio Machado, or at the sports office of the council before spaces are taken.

The night works

This year’s event is part the Fuengirola en Forma, which offers September packed with open-air exercise. The previous versions were held at the Espigon de la T Pier; this year, the Marina Square takes over. Instead of a race, expect music and instructors to call the beat. There will also be a lively crowd. Even those who don’t want to ride can contribute.

Where the money goes

AFA, established in 2003, operates day centres, memory workshops, physiotherapy and support for families throughout Fuengirola & Mijas. These events help to keep these services running and reduce waiting lists. The town hall was thanked by President Paqui Lebron for selecting September as the month for World Alzheimer’s Day.

More ways to help

The “fila-cero” allows people to donate without having to get on a bicycle. AFA also will have collection tables set up at the Marina so that spectators can donate on the night while hearing what the association is doing. This is also a good way to donate for those who could not get tickets to the Simply Thriving night this year.
