Disney brings live-action Tangled to Alicante

Disney brings Tangled in live action to Alicante

This project will give Ciudad de la Luz an exciting new production on which to work and enhances Spain’s reputation as a destination for major international shoots.

Ciudad de la Luz is the focus of the shooting

As far as we know, the Ciudad de la Luz Studios in Alicante will be a major production base. The Generalitat Disney said Friday that it will film the superproduction at the Valencian Community. El País The initial plan of filming will be centered on the Alicante Studios, before moving to other places and returning to the complex.

It is important to note that this project does not represent a mere stop on an extensive European tour. Valencian officials announced that the region would be the central hub of the project. El País The work in Spain will last around eight months. This is not a quick production stop.

What is confirmed so far?

Rapunzel is the animated Disney film that was released in 2010. El País According to reports, filming in Spain is expected to start late in June. Alicante’s Ciudad de la Luz will be the first location, followed by the Valencian Community as well as in the provinces Girona and Burgos.

According to the same report, Michael Gracey will be directing. Teagan Croft is cast as Rapunzel, Milo Manheim plays Flynn Rider and Kathryn Hahn as the villain. In its announcement, the Generalitat also framed the film as an important investment for the region. It was also framed as a sign that the Valencian Audiovisual Sector is gaining international ground.

Why it matters to more than just film lovers

This isn’t just a fun story. It’s also an industrial and economic story. Generalitat has said that the project will have a significant impact on the economy, the labour market and the social life of the region. It also described the agreement as an important boost to the Valencian audiovisual industry. This eight-month plan, which has not yet been fully budgeted, will bring work to the crews and suppliers as well the accommodation providers in the area.

The Added Value of the a broader picture. Spain’s studio infrastructure, diverse landscapes and experienced crews have made it more appealing to large productions from around the world. Alicante’s involvement in the project strengthens Alicante’s position as a major film production base. This is a conclusion drawn from the official positioning and production choices, not a Disney direct statement.

A symbolic moment for Ciudad de la Luz

Another reason why this story is important El País Note that Ciudad de la Luz had to close its doors in 2012 due to a ruling by the European Union on state aid. It only resumed significant audiovisual activities after this restriction was lifted in 2022. The Alicante complex has one of its biggest wins since reopening. It is a Disney production on this scale.

The story is bigger than one film announcement. The story becomes part of an ongoing narrative that focuses on the recovery and restoration of Alicante as a production hub.

Alicante gains a high-profile showcase

Alicante’s value does not just come from what happens on set. Productions of high-profile often have a lasting impact, either through the industry’s prestige, bookings in future or public interest. Generalitat is trying to make the Valencian Community an attractive location for international projects. This announcement makes that strategy clear.

It is still unclear how much of Alicante’s film or Valencian Community will be visible on the screen. In terms of industry, this is almost less important than the fact that it’s being coordinated there.

Spain: A vote of greater confidence

Disney isn’t just in Spain to take a picture for the postcard. Alicante is said to be the center of its work. This shows how Spain has become a popular destination for global productions seeking a combination of studios and locations, as well as logistical support.

If everything goes according to plan, this project will be a clear example of an international studio selecting Spain, not only as scenery but also as infrastructure. The announcement is of great significance for Alicante and Ciudad de la Luz.
