Community unites in emotional fundraiser for Victoria Hart’s children on eve of International Women’s Day

Neighbours and friends gathered on Saturday, March 7 at Lauro Golf Bowls Club in Alhaurin de la Torre for a poignant fundraiser supporting the three children of Victoria Hart, brutally killed in a domestic violence incident on 24 January. Organisers transformed shock and grief into action, raising vital funds while honouring Victoria’s memory on the eve of International Women’s Day.

Outpouring of community support

Jemma, Victoria‘s sister, highlighted the overwhelming response from locals. “Victoria was so loved, and what happened to her so shocking, we have just had an outpouring of offers of help,” she said. Jemma added that the day after the tragedy brought unprecedented affection: “I don’t think I have ever had so many hugs and kisses from people.”

Attendees braved chilly weather without rain (thankfully), enjoying a day filled with unity and warmth. Barbecues sizzled, drinks flowed, and homemade cakes delighted everyone, bringing a sense of togetherness amid sorrow.

Tearful thanks from Victoria’s mum

Sue, mother to Victoria and Jemma, addressed the crowd through tears, expressing deep gratitude for community backing. “I would just like to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart,” she stated. Sue extended appreciation to Jane Richardson for organising the event, mayors Joaquín Villanova of Alhaurin de la Torre and Anthony Bermúdez Beltrón of Alhaurin el Grande, council members, volunteer artists, and all participants.

Mayors condemn violence and pledge support

Joaquín Villanova, Mayor of Alhaurín de la Torre, spoke first, with help from Helen from Cellar Band providing an excellent English translation. He linked the event to Women’s Day celebrations, noting a prior gala’s tribute to Victoria. “We don’t want the brutality of a man against a woman. More and more, what we want is the humanity of man,” the mayor declared. Villanova referenced Spain’s 50-year-old constitution promoting equal rights: “We have advanced a great deal in respect for women in this country. No one has the right to take the life of another, especially of a mother. And even more so if she has 3 children.”

Anthony Bermúdez Beltrón, mayor of Alhaurin el Grande followed, praising generosity and solidarity shown toward Victoria’s family. He reassured Jemma and Sue of ongoing Town Hall assistance for any needs.

Heartwarming announcement

Jemma surprised everyone with news that she and her husband are pursuing legal adoption of Victoria’s children. This revelation touched hearts, symbolising lasting family commitment amid loss.

Lively entertainment line-up

Some of the Costa del Sol’s best entertainers were on hand on to carry the day, donating their time for free. With Brian Piccolo as the day’s MC, Ricky Lavazza opened performances with heartfelt songs, and then proudly introducing his daughter Emma Luisa’s angelic vocals. Energy cranked up with Cellar Band’s southern soul rhythms, followed by blissful opera from Laura Elen and George, and Beni Nelm‘s fresh sounds. Entertainers donated time generously, creating joyful moments for all.

Lasting legacy through charity foundation

Efforts continue beyond the event, with plans for a charity foundation in Victoria’s name. This initiative hopes to aid her children while raising awareness about violence against women, ensuring aggression remains unacceptable in Alhaurin. Community strength is growing, bringing the expat communities and locals together in unity and love, turning tragedy into hope for the future.
