The young Jorge ReyThe Spanish weather forecaster, who has never been wrong in his predictions, predicts that Spain’s heatwave will arrive later than normal and that the UK will be hit by the worst weather.
Jorge Rey, a young Spanish meteorologist from Burgos known for his expertise in the traditional “cabañuelas” method of weather forecasting, a folk system based on observing natural signs, has built a reputation for accurate predictions through his popular YouTube channel. Rey is just 20 and combines ancient methods with modern insights. He has a loyal fan base.
In his latest videoRey presents a turbulent forecast for Spain 2026. It includes a delayed start to winter, rapid temperature changes, and prolonged cold periods that could disrupt holiday celebrations like Easter and Carnival.
February 2026: Mixture of fronts, frosts
Rey forecasts that the start of February will be marked by heavy rains in western Spain as well as a slight decrease in snow levels. Conditions improve by February 6 or 7, with the Cantabrian region of the North experiencing a temporary improvement around February 9-10, thanks to the stabilisation of the atmosphere caused by an anticyclone in the UK. On February 12-13, an influx of cold air could bring widespread storms and frosts to eastern Spain. Around February 17-18 milder temperatures will return for a short time, but new fronts between February 21-24 bring winds, rains and cold spots to northern and central Spain.
Candelaria’s traditional saying is “If it is cold in Candelaria, then 40 days of winter will followThis year, “” won’t be applicable. On February 5, you can expect rain to be more common than snow across the country, but isolated snowfalls cannot be ruled. El Niño‘s influence will favour westerly winds, early rains, and moderate days interspersed with cold bursts.
March 2026 – Warming trends and disruptions
A dust storm (calima) episode around March 17 to 18 will bring warmer air, while late March and early April will see polar cold weather return, potentially causing snow in northern and central regions, even during Easter, a traditional return to the beaches for Spain. Around March 17-18, there will be a dust storm episode (calima), which will bring warmer weather. In late March and April, the polar cold will return and could cause snow, especially in the northern and central regions. Rey warns about mid-altitude snowfalls during the month’s last days.
April 2026: Storms, rain, and heat
April is a mixed month: there will be rains in the western regions around 8 April, followed by an anticyclone between April 12 and 13, which will raise temperatures quite a bit. On April 16-17, storms are expected to hit the Southwest, affecting Extremadura and Huelva. Seville will also be affected, but Cadiz is most likely to be hardest hit. From April 18 to 19 a low in the Atlantic will form near Morocco. It will bring calima to Andalucia as well localized storms to Malaga and Almeria. In late April, fronts will move from Galicia to the North. Rains are expected in the North and West, as well as mountain frosts, and snow.
May and June 2026 – Transition to the real Spanish Summer
The month of May begins with southerly winds that bring high temperatures to the West and Canaries on May 7-8, followed by rainy fronts which affect the South, West, and Canaries on May 9-10. On May 11 and 12, cold northerly winds will bring late snow or frosts to the north. The second half of the month brings cooler temperatures and more instability, with milder conditions towards the end.
Rey predicts that the first truly summery temperatures will not arrive until mid-June. However, there won’t be any extreme heatwaves in the beginning. This is the beginning of climatological Summer, with heat waves that are unusually late.
Rey’s approachable style tells his viewers to be vigilant about the late snows, and volatile shifts that affect all of Spain. Expect the unexpected. But don’t expect to feel the heat of summer until at least June. El Niño is in effect bringing turbulent weather in 2026.
