Honda CR-V – quality, practicality and style

In recent years, it appears that all manufacturers are relaunching their old model names as new cars. These cars are usually electric vehicles. Sometimes this can work to draw attention or appeals to those who remember the model name. The smart car makers may never have lost their name.

Honda has been selling the CR-V since 1995 and in the UK, 1997. It may not have been a high-end sports vehicle, but the CR-V has always offered dependable, stylish and practical SUV transportation. It’s not a Land Rover, but it has always come with a four-wheel drive system that is decent if needed.

The current, chunky and stylish CRV is available in three trims, each with a hybrid power unit that can be either self-charging, or plug-in. It is praised for the build quality, which feels superior to many of its competitors.

This is a big vehicle that has plenty of comfortable seats and good visibility, thanks to its high seating position and large glass area. Honda has thankfully taken a commonsense approach with switches and buttons. The touchscreen is large and clear, and allows for the safe and simple completion of most tasks.

All hybrids or electric vehicles are automatics, and the eCVT system on the CRV relies less on engine noise and high revs. Even under hard acceleration it’s still a smooth, refined ride.

The large Honda is moved by the 2.0-litre engine in 9 seconds, which is a benchmark. Fuel consumption for a vehicle of this size is very low. If you choose the plug-in-hybrid, you can travel up to 50 miles using only electric power.

All models come with a standard panoramic glass roof. Other features include heated front seats, leather interior, reclining rear and front seats, wireless charging and power tailgate. The list gets even more impressive with higher trims.

Priced from €53,687/£47,350 the CR-V is a lot of car for the money, rather good looking and immensely practical with a premium ambience to the look, feel and touch of the car. You can’t do much better than the CRV if you want to find a car that is both practical and premium, while also providing comfort. The CR-V also has, at least for this writer, the style, substance and quality that many competitors lack.
