Marbella is fine dishing out fines

Marbella fines those who fine others

Marbella’s Local Police removed 250 abandoned cars from public roads this year and towed to the municipal depot as part of ongoing campaign to tackle urban clutter and to improve community living standards.

The municipal towing service collected 2,737 vehicles between January and September. This was mainly due to improper parking. The officials said the crackdown is aimed at improving coexistence between residents, rather than just issuing fines.

During the same time period, 2024, the enforcement of urban solid waste and cleansing ordinance was intensified. As a result, 919 monetary fines were issued. That is more than three times the 340 that were recorded during the same time period. Most violations are due to failure to follow designated waste collection schedules. This is especially true in industrial zones.

Other enforcement actions to note include a rise in fines for street drinking gatherings, or “botellón”, boozy get-togethers in public spaces, from 37 last year to 68 in 2025. Public establishments have also been cited for 169 infractions.

Personal mobility devices were also under more scrutiny, with 365 complaints being processed for scooters, bicycles, and other personal mobility devices operating outside of permitted areas. That’s up from the 186 in the previous years. The increased number of complaints is due to the increase in police patrols that are meant to ensure safer streets.
