San Pedro ship-shape and green again

San Pedro, green and in ship-shape

San Pedro Alcantara Town Hall completed a conservation and maintenance program for local green areas. Plans are to continue the work through the autumn with replanting and tree conditioning in order to maintain the best possible condition of public spaces for residents.

This annual effort ensures that parks, plazas, boulevards and avenues are kept in top condition during the summer months when they are used most. It improves the community’s well-being, as well as the scenic appeal of the area.

Summer cleaning included leaf removal, trimming hedges, lawn mowing and soil preparation. Manual weeding was also done in flowerbeds and tree pits. Local authorities have made no mention of gum blobs left on pavements. Other measures include clearing overgrown plants and applying phytosanitary treatment to prevent pests including processionary catapillars. They also maintain the health of shrubs and trees.

Main sites that saw the most extensive work include Parque del Arquillo, Finca de la Caridad, Parque Canino Virgen del Rocío, the Church Square (Plaza de la Iglesia), Bulevar de San Pedro Alcantara, the Skate Park, Calle Marques del Duero, and avenues such as Burgos, Barcelona, Constitucion, as well as Ruiz Picasso. The projects are part of an ongoing strategy to provide green environments that are safe, accessible and well maintained.

As autumn arrives, Parks and Gardens will replace stressed plantings and prepare trees for the rainy seasons. They will also clean up green areas and prepare them for the rainy months. Finca de la Caridad’s fairgrounds will also be prepared in preparation for the Fair and Festivals to honour San Pedro Alcantara. In addition, improvements will be made to the Arab Garden of Los Tres Jardines.

The district of Marbella has become cleaner, greener and much healthier after a busy season.
